MenLo is a studio and gallery focused on growing the international artist community in Jingdezhen, providing access to the city for aspiring ceramic artists, and amplifying young and emerging Chinese contemporary artists in any medium. As a studio we are committed to working in an integrated way with the city, its artisans, and its industry. As a gallery we do not have representational relationships with artists, we facilitate making, and try to find the work done in our studio homes in various galleries, museums, and other venues around China.
Like anywhere the cost of living and working in Jingdezhen can vary depending on lifestyle. Below are a list of common needs not included in the cost of our residencies and summer programs and a range of prices for them. Send us specific items you have questions about and we will add them to this list. All prices are general and could of course vary situationally.
Food:
Street vendors (our favorite Lunches) cost between $0.50 - 1.50
Fruit Vendors are common in town and offer fresh goods by the kg for $1.00 - 3.00 (almost all are in this range but some are pricier, Durian and Cherries for example)
Noodle and Rice shops offer filling meals for $1.50 - 3.50
Western food is a bit more expensive, from sandwich shops and other small restaurants to Pizza Hut, McDonalds, and KFC $5.00 -12.00
A normal dinner with friends consists of many shared dishes $ 3.00 - 10.00 per person
Hot-pot dinner $7.00 - 12.00 per person
The most expensive restaurants in town offer great cooks and interesting styles $10.00 - 30.00 per person
