MenLo is a studio and gallery focused on amplifying young and emerging Chinese contemporary artists in any medium and bringing international ceramic artists working with non-traditional processes or forms to Jingdezhen. As a gallery we do not have representational relationships with artists, we facilitate making, and try to find the work done in our studio homes in various galleries, museums, and other venues around China.
How to Jingdezhen for Art & Design Professionals
This new program is designed with the MenLo mission of growing the professional art community in Jingdezhen. Artists from all over the world locate their practice in Jingdezhen, whether partially or full time. It is a place for project execution, design and prototyping, production, exploration, for commercial expansion, and for the growth of artistic practice in general.
For the Month of November in 2023, the MenLo studio will be open to Art & Design professionals who see an opportunity for growth or execution in Jingdezhen. Participants can set goals, talk through possibilities, and arrange appropriate help in a planning stage before arrival. Once here, they will have a fully personalized plan to help them access and make use of all that Jingdezhen has to offer along with professional assistance, accommodations, and daily support. Participants may choose to use their stay to carry out a specific project, or to supplement their home studio practice through co-operation with the artisans and industry of Jingdezhen. Artists and designers working in any medium are welcome, as ceramic skill is not a pre-requisite to ceramic creation in Jingdezhen.
This is a goal-driven session for professional makers without any scheduled visits to Jingdezhen’s more touristic locales. Participants will, however, have the benefit of our expertise on the city and its surrounding natural beauty and will have any help they require to make the most out of their time in this wonderful place.
Scheduling is flexible and will be arranged according to each participants needs. In general we advise a minimum of two weeks, but will talk through goals with anyone interested and create a recommended timeline for completion. Participants will be limited to 5 at any given time to ensure that everyone participating can get all they personalized support they need. The session fee is 2,600 RMB per week and includes housing, studio space, and support from planning, to visa application, and project execution.
